Annasaheb Shinde


January 21, 1922: Born to a farmer's family in Padali, Nasik district, Maharashtra.


1942-44: Freedom Fighter. Established a major freedom movement with rural masses in the Ahmednagar and Nasik districts. Jailed for two years during the Freedom Movement. Became a Communist while in jail.


1945-48: Promoted powerful Communist movement in Ahmednagar district.


1946: Law graduate from ILS Law College, Pune.


1947: Married to Hirabai.


1946-58: Practiced as a lawyer.


1948-50: Jailed as a Communist for leading farmers' agitation.


1949: Wrote a White Paper for the Communist High Command. Expelled from the Communist Party.


1950-62: Director and Vice Chairman of the first cooperative sugar factory in India - Pravaranagar. Expanded activities to agro engineering and rural education. Hosted Nehru in 1961, which initiated his close association with Indira Gandhi.


1950-53: Engaged in farming activity.


1954-56: Leader of the Khandakari Farmers Agitation.


1956-62: Editor of Janasatta (a Marathi paper published from Srirampur).


1960-62: Chairman of Cooperative Sugar Factories Maharashtra.


1961-62: Member of Maharashtra Irrigation Commission (Barve Commission).


1961: Rejoined Congress Party.


1962-80: Member of Parliament.


1964: Wrote "Bharatachi Krishi Samasya - Anna Samasya" (Marathi).


1965: Wrote "Bharat Pakistan Yuddha" (Marathi).


1962-77: Member of Union Cabinet, pivotal in India's agricultural revolutions. Promoted research and education in agriculture.


1977-80: Chairman National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories.


1976: Received the Krishiratna (Jewel of Agriculture) Award.


1982: Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from Mahatma Phule Agriculture University, Pune.


1987: Wrote "Sheti Aani Paani" (Marathi).


1988: Awarded the Ramshastri Prabhune Award for Distinguished Social Work.


1992: Wrote "Israel Tandolakh" (Marathi).


January 12, 1993: Passed away.
